Infinity War / Marvel Movies
Went to see the midnight screening of Infinity War this morning. Truly setting the bar for superhero movies going forward, it is an epic more in the vein of Lord of the rings. Likely to smash its way up the revenue charts, apparently already taken $150m in pre-sales.
Amazing considering the franchise has been going on for 10 years and over 15 films, yet it just seems to be getting stronger. Who'd have thought Black Panther would have overtaken Titanic in Box Office takings?
Also, how do Marvel keep doing it when DC clearly struggle? Justice league struggled to deal with 6 main characters in getting the screentime, but when you see Infinity War you'll see Marvel somehow manage to make it work with over 10 big characters.
Go see it on the big screen, 3D didn't really add to it in my opinion though.
Any of you nerds seen it yet?

The problem I have with the pager, is that how did he know that the person he was paging was alive? Unless the 90s pager directly references the next film in a ‘Looper’ kind of way.

Re: Infinity War / Marvel Movies
The end credit scene with the pager was probably the most important in the whole film.

Kirok. The pager will be explained in the film it is setting up. If you know about It it makes sense

in fact, in relative terms, Titanic took twice as much money as Black Panther. And Gone with the Wind took 50% more than Titanic!

Yea..... it hasn't though. These box office stats are misleading and ultimately meaningless unless you adjust for inflation. They're just used as a PR stunt now to make it sound like todays blockbusters are the most successful films ever; when the real measure should be adjusted for inflation or tickets sold.

Titanic is number 5 on the all-time list, Black Panther..... number 31!

Saw it yesterday. Not sure why it deserves 5 stars.
It’s good. It rollocks along at a decent pace.
But major incidents eave you feeling flat because there’s presumably a huge reset macguffin in the follow up to allow them to sort out much of what might have left you ‘wowed’.
Characters interact well but you still wonder why Wakunda let the rest of Africa go to shit.
Also, if Doc Strange and Thor could zap around via portals and magical doorways, why the fuck did they not...?
It’s fun and entertaining but just leaves you a bit flat and the end titles scene, without giving anything away... Who the fuck uses a pocket fucking pager?

I thought Watchmen was great, though It's rather Marmite, I believe.

Yeah, I thought Logan was absolutely brilliant.

Re: Infinity War / Marvel Movies
I liked it. However, i feel it's impossible to judge a film like this as a standalone because of everything that has come before and how it has been advertised; as the end. Is it fuck. Now we have another full year of speculation and click bait internet articles about what everything means and i think this has pushed me over the edge.

As a stand alone film - 5/10 because it's only half a film. I've read some people say they were crying at the end and they must be fucking divs as if you're the type of person to be that invested in a Marvel film, you'll probably be aware of their upcoming slate of films which negates every stake or every piece of tension that was created.

I enjoyed it. It's "Set-Peice; The Movie," but it's fun.

Logan and Guardians 1 are still the best two, in my opinion. Followed closely by Spider-Man 2 and Batman Begins.

I really struggle with too much CGI these days - almost seems like animation.

The Dark Knight trilogy was the best IMO

I don't think they're immature Dan, I just tend to lose interest. I'll take junior to see this one though, no doubt.

Re: Infinity War / Marvel Movies
That was the case, but unless youve not been paying attention, this thing with the infinity stones has been coming together for a while. Dr Strange? Guardians? Thor?

Havent seen any of the Captain America films so thanks for heads up.

Yes you're much more grown up than the rest of us WP, we get it. Well done.

Re: Infinity War / Marvel Movies
I find that you really don't have to have seen any previous Marvel films to watch any of them, as they're pretty basic stuff. Whether or not you care enough to see the story through an entire film without looking at your watch is another matter.

Re: Infinity War / Marvel Movies
I'd advise watching all three Cap films before AIW as they are the centre half, centre mid and centre forward of the MCU story.

In fact there aren't really any of the previous MCU films that don't link into this.

The next two MCU films will be both feeding into the sequel. Seb Stan (Bucky) has already let slip in an interview that Michelle Pfeiffer is in the sequel which counts for one of them.

What this film does, more than any other in the series, is be a comic. The writers assume you already know the established characters so they can pitch straight into a new story arc with a new antagonist. The story can bounce around different locations at a pace. And the visuals and action can be out there from the get go. This shouldn't be measured against other films. It's a different genre with a different feel and goal. It's a filmed comic.

Whether that is for adults or kids is another subject but fuck it, I'm 45 and love that the stuff I was into as a 12 year old is now mainstream and cinematically achievable. I also love that I can share this with my kids.

I don't like Cumberpatch anyway... He said he is in Infinity so said to watch just so you know who it is.

These all merge into on for me and halfway through I massively lose interest in whatever it is they're trying to do. I find the "jokes" hugely cringey as well. Will still prob watch it with Pony Jr though.

Re: Infinity War / Marvel Movies
And obviously ragnarok, but you said you’d seen that one?

But you also said you’d seen the captain america films but havent seen civil war so not sure
